This industrial archaeology conference includes talks, tours and site visits in and around Caithness, with options starting and finishing in Inverness and a day in Orkney.
Explore the exciting world of industrial archaeology in a part of Scotland noted for its geology, vernacular buildings, fishing stations and for the transformational presence of Dounreay and modern engineering firms.

This conference is a partnership between Historic Environment Scotland, the Scottish Industrial Heritage Society and the Scottish Vernacular Buildings Working Group.

The Campaign for Women's Suffrage in Caithness
Talk by Susan Kruse, followed by exploration of some of the newspaper archive material on microfilm
East Caithness Community Facility, Wick
Part of a project organised by the WEA and delivered by Susan Kruse of ARCH. It will be followed up over the summer by an opportunity to research at Wick Library and the Nucleus. The first research session will be Tuesday 26th June, 10-2:30 at the Nucleus. During excavations of Clachtoll Broch lots of sherds of Iron Age pottery were found, and now we’re going to try to make our own! Join us on Monday 25th or Wednesday 27th of June between 3.30pm and 6pm, meeting at Clachtoll Beach Car Park. Local craftspeople Fergus Stewart and Marc Campbell will use local clay to recreate Iron Age-style vessels, which will later be fired in an experimental ancient kiln. Drop in for as long as you like – all ages welcome! If the weather is wet, we may retreat to Stoer Hall.
